Embarkation in Haifa, Israel: What to Know Before You Go!

EMBARKATION IN HAIFA ISRAEL WHAT TO KNOW, BEFORE YOU GO!

If you’re planning a Mediterranean cruise, embarking from Haifa, Israel, is an exciting experience! Recently, we had the pleasure of completing a 7-night Mediterranean cruise aboard the MSC Musica, which was a round-trip journey from Haifa. The cruise, which included a balcony room, Wi-Fi, and alcohol, cost just over $2,000. If you’re a first-time cruiser departing from Haifa, there are some things you should know before you set sail. Whether you're curious about the embarkation process or have general cruise and travel questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch via email here.

Getting to Haifa Cruise Port

The Haifa cruise port is about 90 minutes north of Tel Aviv by train, and getting there is relatively simple. The train station is conveniently located at the airport, and you won’t need to transfer trains. Each station stop is announced in both Hebrew and English, making it easy to navigate. When you arrive in Haifa, disembark at Haifa Center Station, which is just a 5-minute walk from the cruise terminal.

Though the train is one of the most affordable travel options, taxis, buses, and private transportation are also available for more convenience. Once you arrive, there are plenty of local attractions to explore in Haifa, such as the Bahai Gardens, or you can even book a post-cruise tour like we did.

Arriving at the Haifa Port

If you're planning on boarding an MSC cruise, be sure to note that you cannot board the ship until at least 3:00 PM. Unlike many other cruise ports, early boarding is not available at Haifa’s cruise terminal. If you arrive early, you’ll be asked to wait until they begin boarding. Seating and shaded areas are limited at the port entrance, so plan accordingly.

As of this post, the Haifa cruise terminal is undergoing construction, and passengers should be prepared for more walking than usual. Those with mobility issues may experience longer wait times during check-in, though there is an elevator and golf carts available to assist.

The Embarkation Process

Just like at any other cruise port, you’ll need to present your cruise documents, which can be downloaded from your online account. These documents will contain essential materials like bag tags and important information. For U.S. citizens, a valid passport is required to board the ship, so be sure to factor that into your travel budget.

After check-in, you’ll clear Israeli customs before proceeding to board the ship.

Boarding the MSC Musica

Once aboard the MSC Musica, passengers with mobility challenges will be directed to a separate line, ensuring they don't have to navigate the steep gangway.

Once you’re onboard, you’ll encounter MSC’s sales funnel, where passengers are offered various packages, including internet, excursions, spa treatments, and drink packages. While this is standard for many cruises, it’s worth noting if you're considering onboard purchases.

You’ll then need to visit your safety assembly station, where you’ll familiarize yourself with emergency procedures and learn where to go in case of evacuation. Your assembly station will be assigned based on your room.

Life Onboard and Things to Do on Embarkation Day

If you’ve purchased a drink package, you can use it at all the bars around the ship and during dinner. Once you board, head to the buffet if you’re feeling hungry.

Embarkation day is an excellent time to explore the ship and get acquainted with all the spaces, including the spa, gym, and theater. We always like to explore and discover new places to relax and enjoy the evening entertainment.
